Foundation and Roots
September 2, 2025 Thursday Oluchi’s Teachings
1. The Importance of Foundations
- Everything else in a building depends on the foundation.
- You can have the most expensive furniture and valuable items, but if the foundation is weak, the building will collapse and destroy everything inside.
- The same principle applies spiritually: the foundation of your life is more important than your achievements, possessions, or talents.
- If the foundation is not solid, nothing built on it can last.
2. The Roots of a Tree
- Before a seed shoots out of the ground, it first develops roots.
- The strength and depth of the roots determine how strong the tree becomes, how long it lasts, how much fruit it bears, and how much it flourishes.
- In the same way, your spiritual foundation is like the roots of a tree. It’s invisible at first, but it determines everything about the visible life later.
3. Spiritual Foundations and Your Inner Life
- Your foundation determines your identity, your character, and your production (the “fruit” of your life).
- Jesus said, “By their fruits you shall know them” - your fruits reveal your spiritual roots.
- If your spirit-man is standing on a weak foundation, the fruits of your life will show it.
4. The Word of God as the True Foundation
- In fellowship we sing: “We are standing upon the Word of God.”
- The Word of God is power.
- When you stand on the Word as your foundation, you tap into God’s power for transformation, freedom from sin, and victory over struggles you thought you could never overcome.
5. Why We Need a New Birth
- Every human is born into a corrupted spiritual family because Adam and Eve, the original humans, became corrupted.
- Like a photocopy of a stained original document, every copy carries the same stain.
- That’s why Scripture says “All have sinned and fall short” (Romans 3:23, Psalm 51).
- To change this, we must be born again—transferred from the family of sin into God’s family of righteousness.
- Only then do we have the right to call God our Father.
6. What Happens When You Are Born Again
- When you accept Christ, the seed of God (the Word of God) is planted in you.
- This is like pregnancy — the life is there, but not yet visible.
- Your old sins are forgiven immediately, but the old structures and habits of sin may still remain.
- This is why some believers still struggle with old temptations after salvation.
- There is a difference between Christ being in you and you being in Christ.
- Christ comes into you at salvation; you grow into Christ by abiding in Him until His life fully fills you.
7. Sin Has a Spirit, a Structure, and a Life
Sin operates like a driver, a car, and a journey:
Spirit of Sin – the driver.
Structure of Sin – the car.
Life of Sin – the movement of the car.
When you are born again, the Spirit of Sin is driven out. But the structure (old patterns, habits, and attractions) may still remain until it is dismantled through discipleship, obedience, and God’s Word.
8. Growing the Seed of Christ in You
- Every seed takes time to grow. At first, there’s no visible evidence of it.
- But as you feed it and care for it, it grows roots, sprouts, and bears fruit.
Obedience
Prayer
Studying the Word
Doing the will of God (John 4:34)
If you neglect these, it’s like a pregnant woman ignoring her health — the life in her can be lost. In the same way, Christ in you must be nourished and protected from sin.
9. Signs Christ Is Growing in You
Just like pregnancy changes a woman’s appetite, movement, and priorities, Christ in you changes your:
Desires
Vision
Behavior
Speech
Movements
His presence will become felt and visible. You won’t be able to live the same way you used to.
10. How Christ “Moves Through Your Movement”
- As you mature, you will begin to sense the movement of Christ in you.
- This means your actions, words, and decisions begin to flow from His promptings.
- You speak what He puts in your mouth.
- You act as He leads.
- It’s like when you’re physically exhausted, yet a strength beyond you enables you to pray or act.
- That’s Christ’s life moving through you.
- This isn’t automatic; it’s a stage of growth.
- It comes through obedience, sensitivity, and fellowship with Him.
11. Three Things You Must Overcome
Sin (the spirit and structures of sin).
The Flesh (human desires, like food and sleep, that can weaken your spiritual alertness if uncontrolled).
The World (not the physical earth, but the system of life that corrupts and opposes God).
As the Word of God grows in you, you become sensitive — detecting temptations before they arrive, discerning movements of God, and walking in victory.
Summary:
Your foundation determines your destiny.
Christ in you begins as a seed but must be fed and protected.
Obedience is the food of Christ in you.
Growth leads to sensitivity, power over sin, and Christ living and moving through you.
This is the path from simply being born again to being truly born of God.
