Romans 6:14 - Dominion means
Romans 6:14 (ESV) says:
"For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace."
Sin will have no dominion over you"
-
Dominion implies rule, authority, mastery. Paul personifies sin as a tyrant or master.
-
Paul is saying that sin no longer rules over the believer—it has been dethroned.
-
This does not mean believers never sin, but that sin is no longer the dominant force or identity in their lives.
This points to a change of ownership. Before Christ, sin was the default master. After receiving grace, believers now serve a new master—God’s righteousness (see Romans 6:18).
Law shows the standard but cannot change the heart.
Grace changes the heart and gives power to live a new life.
