Parable of the Lamp
The parable of the lamp
Matthew 5:14-16
Mark 4:21-22
Mark 4:21-22
Luke 8:16-17
Luke 11:33-36
Matthew 5:14 - You are the light of the earth
Lamp:
- The lamp represents Jesus (Revelation 21:23; Proverbs 6:23).
- 7 golden lamp-stands - 7 churches (Revelation 1:20)
- The head of the church is Jesus Christ. (Eph 1:23)
Lamp-stand:
- The Lamp-stand represents everyone who is saved and received the Holy Spirit.
Zechariah 4:14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
two anointed ones are
- Zerubbabel (king) - First
- Joshua (high priest] - Second
Revelation 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Oil poured into the lamp-stand:
- The oil poured into the lamp represents the Holy Spirit. (1 Sam 16:13)
- Only if there is oil in the lamp-stand we will have good deeds.
- If we have good deeds, the people who see them will see the light in us. (Philippians 2:14)
- The light of the Lord Jesus Christ shines in this world through the Holy Spirit in us.
- God will do his deeds through us.
Our duty:
- The one who sins who hides himself from the light (Jesus) and remains in the darkness (within the world).
- As the moon borrows and reflects the light of the sun, it is our duty to receive the light of Christ and give light to the world.
Candle-flame:
- The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the inner depths of his heart.(Proverbs 20:27).
- A flame was burning in Adam's spirit.
- But it was extinguished by the lies of Satan. (Proverbs 14:25)
- Adam believed Satan's lie (you will never die) and the flame was blown up.
- Likewise , the flame will be blown out when we look at worldly things.
Don’t cover it with Basket:
- Worldly things, fear.
- We should not let worldly affairs or fear stop us from evangelizing others.
- Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)
- Luke 11:33-35 - Take heed that the light that is in you is not darkened.
- Their unfeeling foolish hearts were darkened (Romans 1:21).
- Consciousness is that light.
- As long as the light is with us, that consciousness is with us.
- When the light goes out, that feeling leaves us.
- Then our heart becomes dark.
- If there is no feeling, it means that we have turned off the light or blown out the fire somewhere.
- We must never allow a deceiver to extinguish a burning lamp.
- Isaiah 60:1-2 - We must be light in the midst of darkness when the Lord's light is upon us. We must reflect the light (truth).
If there is Jesus as the lamp, the Holy Spirit as the oil, and the Father as the consciousness in the human being as the lampstand, we can reflect the light of the true God (Trinity) to others. If the lampstand is alone then nothing can be done.
