God’s heart of mercy revealed in Methuselah’s name

Methuselah was the longest living man who died at 969 years of age. But why did God prolong his life? In Hebrew, his name means “his death shall bring.” The times before the flood were filled with wickedness. God was so grieved that he prophesied judgment over mankind after Methuselah’s death. Even though God had to send judgment, His heart was not for men to perish and He prolonged Methuselah’s life.

because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.

கர்த்தரின் கிருபையின் இதயம் மெத்தூசலாவின் பெயரில் வெளிப்பட்டது

969 வயதில் இறந்த மெத்தூசெலா மிக நீண்ட காலம் வாழ்ந்தவர். ஆனால் கர்த்தர் ஏன் அவருடைய ஆயுளை நீட்டித்தார்? எபிரேய மொழியில், அவருடைய பெயர் "அவருடைய மரணம் கொண்டுவரும்" என்று பொருள்படும். வெள்ளத்திற்கு முந்தைய காலங்கள் அக்கிரமத்தால் நிறைந்திருந்தன. கர்த்தர் மிகவும் துக்கமடைந்தார், அவர் மெத்தூசலாவின் மரணத்திற்குப் பிறகு மனிதகுலத்தின் மீது நியாயத்தீர்ப்பை கொண்டு வருவேன் என்று தீர்க்கதரிசனம் உரைத்திருந்தார். ஆனால் கர்த்தர் தீர்ப்பை அனுப்ப வேண்டியதாய் இருந்தாலும், அவரது இதயம் மனிதர்களை அழிக்க முன்வரவில்லை, அதனால் தான் அவர் மெத்தூசலாவின் ஆயுளை நீட்டித்தார். 

அந்த ஆவிகள், பூர்வத்திலே நோவா பேழையை ஆயத்தம்பண்ணும் நாட்களிலே, தேவன் நீடிய பொறுமையோடே காத்திருந்தபோது, கீழ்ப்படியாமற்போனவைகள்; அந்தப் பேழையிலே சிலராகிய எட்டுப்பேர்மாத்திரம் பிரவேசித்து ஜலத்தினாலே காக்கப்பட்டார்கள்.
